Black Hat SEO vs. White Hat SEO, which is better?

Author: karthik | Files under SEO

Hi there! Karthik here

Today my article is going to be about the topic “Black Hat SEO & White Hat SEO”

Well, the difference between Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO is known to all webmasters and this article is especially for those who still follow Black Hat SEO for their website without knowing its consequences.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a technique which is used to make a site to rank well for a particular keyword in Search Engines such as Google, MSN, Yahoo and others. If SEO task is performed according to the guidelines of Search Engines then it is considered as White Hat SEO and if not, it is considered as Black Hat SEO which Search Engines don’t like and remove those sites that follow this technique from its database.

White Hat SEO:

White Hat SEO is a technique which is employed to make a website to rank well in search engines by adhering to ethical methods that are approved and fully supported by the search engines. The important thing is, White Hat SEO requires some time and it is expected to make the website to rank well for a long time in Search engines. Though the guidelines and policies of most of the search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, and AltaVista are found to slightly vary from each other, it represents and supports the same method “White Hat SEO”.

Black Hat SEO:

Black Hat SEO is a dangerous method adopted by some of the webmasters to cheat Search Engines such as Google and others but once found by them, then their website is kicked out of their database (Search Engine’s). Even though this method gets the website to top position in Search Engines but it is only for a short time until search engines find out the fraud committed by those webmasters. Some of the Black Hat SEO techniques are described below.

  1. Automated Software: There are some webmasters who make use of Automated software to promote their website, but what happens at the end – “Banned from search engines”. So, it’s better to avoid keeping away from those type of software.

  1. Link Farms: Search Engines such as Google and others consider Link farms as their enemy and if they find any site taking part in Link Farms they are right away banned from their listings and deleted out of their index.

  1. Doorway pages: Doorway pages or gateway pages or entry pages or jump pages are the pages that are filled with full of keywords in order to cheat Search Engines and rank high in Search results but, it doesn’t provide any useful information to the users. Search Engines don’t like doorway pages rather they only need pages that offer information to their users. So, people using doorway pages need to be careful, anytime your site may get banned by the search engines.

  1. Cloaking: Cloaking is one of the Black Hat SEO techniques which shows different pages to the search engines and users for the purpose of ranking high in Search Engines which is completely prohibited by the Search Engines.

  1. Hidden Text: It is a method which is implemented to add more keywords to the page that is hidden to the users. But once search engines come to know this, then that particular website is completely banned from their inclusion.

If you prefer to rank well for a short term in Search Engines and get banned entirely, then Black Hat SEO will help you but if you prefer to rank well in Search Engines for a long time without getting banned by them then White Hat SEO is very important and it requires some time to see the end result which is not same as in the case of Black Hat SEO. White Hat SEO is the only choice of all winners.
